Who we are
AP News is an independent publisher of news, briefings and explainers. We write for readers who want to understand what happened and why it matters, without wading through noise.
Our editorial team focuses on clarity, context and verification. We do not publish sponsored stories disguised as reporting, and we label opinion and analysis clearly.
What we cover
We cover five areas: world news, breaking news, daily updates, general knowledge and trending topics. Each story is written to stand on its own, with enough background for a reader arriving without prior knowledge.
Where a topic touches safety, law or public health, we point to the relevant authority rather than guessing. Rules and conditions vary by place, so we flag what should be confirmed locally.
How we report and verify
We start with primary sources: documents, data, official statements and direct interviews. We check claims against more than one independent source before publication and correct errors openly when they are found.
When a figure cannot be verified, we say so. Illustrative examples are labelled as examples, not presented as established fact. Every article carries a publication and update date so readers can judge how current it is.
